The summer of 1987 felt like a new beginning in Stuttgart. After years of uncertainty, coach Arie Haan brought a breath of fresh air to the Neckarstadion, creating a genuine sense of optimism both on and off the field. Led by captain Fritz Walter, the team impressed with their skillful play and impressive team spirit.
Although they failed to win a title - the defeat in the DFB Cup final was particularly painful - VfB thrilled fans with spectacular victories and spirited performances, not only on the field but also emotionally. The team sent a strong message to the fans and the city: the club was back on the big stage - with a new identity built on unity, fighting spirit, and courage. Under the floodlights of the Neckarstadion, the feeling that something great could be achieved returned.
