On Matchday 25 of the 1990–1991 season, VfB Stuttgart pulled off a massive surprise: for the first time in living memory, the players wore purple jerseys on April 12, 1991. Jerseys, shorts, socks—everything lilac—which was nothing short of sacrilege for die-hard “Brustring” fans. Despite the bold color choice, VfB didn’t come away empty-handed from the 2-2 draw in Wattenscheid.
